Making the User Experience a good one

Adllins Media User Experience written on chalkboards

So, you’ve started a Business and have built a website to create your presence online. You are ready to launch, but how do you know if the user experience is going to be a good one?

The User Experience (UX) is integral to a well-performing site. It’s not about how many visitors you can get to your site but about keeping the user on your site and engaged to improve your chances of conversions – which means sales.

Here are some simple mistakes we commonly see:

Old News isn’t Good News

Website development is constantly changing with new trends, themes and improvements in technology. When a user lands on your website and sees a single-page site with 8-bit imagery, you would expect the bounce rate to be pretty high.

Website creation, unfortunately, isn’t a once-off, set-and-forget task for your business. Constantly updating your site to keep it current and modern will certainly improve the UX.

Complexity

While keeping your website, modern is ideal,  you still need to keep it clean. Plenty of widgets and plug-ins are available but don’t go crazy. A clean, simple and fast interface will keep your users happy.

Not Enough information

While we are more visual creatures, unfortunately, sometimes it’s not enough. A picture may speak a thousand words, but it won’t be able to answer a thousand questions – and precisely, this is what most people are looking for: answers. Ensure you include enough information so the user can find what they are looking for.

Too Much Information

On the other hand, too much information isn’t necessarily a good thing. You don’t want your user to become overloaded with information and leave to find their answer easier elsewhere. Find that perfect balance of content.

Finding your way

Is your site content heavy, but no clear way to find anything? Navigating a site can be difficult if pages don’t line up with menus or are categorised in ways that don’t make sense. Users should be able to find the information they are after with ease.

Forceful actions

What do you do when you visit a site and, without delay, a pop window appears, pushing you to subscribe to a newsletter? How is a user supposed to know if this is ideal, if they haven’t had a chance to see what your website is about? Forcing your user to sign up or complete an action before entering the site will increase your bounce rate.

There are many factors to consider when building a website, and while your key focus may be how you want to be presented online, it’s important to see your site from the user’s perspective. Ultimately, they will be the ones using it!
